A very solid start to the week in Gaborone as turnover amounted to $1.89m thanks to Sefalana (596k shares), Sechaba (154k shares), Engen (371k shares), BIHL (150k shares) and FNBB (547k shares).
Nothing much to report from Nairobi as turnover amounted to a very dissapointing $2.9m as foreigners only slightly dominated proceedings. Safcom was the most active counter on the day as 6.9m shares changed hands but came under some pressure on the back of foreign selling as the telco fell -4.3%. Banking heavyweights EQBNK and KNCB both closed the day lower, falling -0.6% and -1.1% respectively.
A dull start to the week in Port Louis as turnover amounted to $680k with CIEL (1.6m shares) dominating activity while the likes of MCBG and SBMH were very quiet.
A large cross of ca. 40m Zenith just before the close boosted activity on an otherwise dull day as total value traded amounted to $13.8m. There was also some activity in GTB ($1.65m), DangCem ($1.26m) and Access ($1.06m). Banks took a hammering with the sector falling -3.22% as Zenith (-6.49%), Access (-4.69%) and UBA (-3.73%) came under some serious pressure. Consumers (-1.17%) were also weak thanks to PZ Cussons (-9.72%), Guinness (-2.52%) and NB (-1.68%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A rather slow start to the week as turnover amounted to $268k with Delta ($131k) and OK ($109k) the only names worth mentioning.
