Another woeful day in Nairobi as the market continues to fall on small volumes. The most active name was Bamburi which fell by 1.3% to KES152 although the bulk of trading was done by local participants. All 4 large cap names took a pounding. EABL (KES270) and Safcom (KES13.45) fell by 3.9% and 3.6% respectively while in the banks we saw Equity Bank and KNCB fall by 1.9% and 2.8% respectively.
A dull day in Port Louis with total value traded amounting to a dire $480k as MCBG (33k shares) was the most active name while the rest of the market was very quiet.
The relentless sell off continues with red screens dominating the board. Once again crosses are about the only source of interest. Banks fell by a further 2.21% with action heavily centered in GTB (-3.38%, N20.00), Zenith (-1.77%, N13.85) and Access (-3.11%, N4.36). The consumers were also weak as they shed 2.67% although outside of NB (-1.76%, N110.15) the sector was dead.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A much better in Harare as turnover amounted to $1.34m thanks to some action in Econet ($595k), Delta ($342k) and CBZ ($196k).
