Movers & Shakers: March 03, 2017

Botswana: DCI unch, USD 910k

Some action in Choppies (250t) and BIHL (1785t) the main drawcards.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.25%, USD 2.18m

It was an extremely dull day in Nairobi with the lack of activity compounded by continual ATS systems issues in Nairobi. The main action today went through in KNCB with foreign buyers pushing the price up by 2% to KES 25.50. EABL saw some mild activity at KES 217.00 (-91bps).

Mauritius: Semdex -0.20%, USD 970k

Nothing overly exciting to report from the Mauritian bourse today. As always, MCBG heavily dominated the turnover charts as the banking group closed down 10bps at Rs226.25.

Nigeria: ASI +0.73%, USD 10.7m

We saw some volume return to the Nigerian market today although a heavy chunk of this was local with some aggressive local buying in Zenith Bank the main attraction. Zenith (+3.24%, N14.35) accounted for more than 40% of the total market turnover and also drove the banks higher by 63bps. The Consumers (+2.10%) also bounced nicely led higher by Nestle (+10.25%, N628.42). Outside of Zenith there was decent volume in NB and Mobil.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.21%, USD 1.4m

Foreign investors remain hesitant to participate on the ZSE which partly explains yet another weak session. The bulk of today’s action went through in Delta (82.25c).
