Despite an upbeat start Egypt got hit hard for the second consecutive day with the only positive appetite coming from local retail following unofficial indications showing a dominant presidential win for Sisi. The EGX30 ended the day down 3.45% down on strong volumes of $186m with news of the implementation of the capital gains tax along with the aggressive profit taking from local and foreign institutions. PHDC (-4.23%) led the market lower on twice the three-month average volume. COMI got hit, falling 6% to a low of EGP34.90. It was red across the board with names such as AMER, OTMT, GTHE and ACGC all ending in the red territory close to the session’s low.
Chunky crossing in KNCB was the main focal point of today’s session. The bulk of the crossing took place at the KES 50.00 level although the stock eventually ended the day at KES 49.75 (+2.58%). Equity Bank also saw a couple of decent crosses and the name was also strong, closing higher at KES 41.00. EABL was strong and closed at KES 274 although was trading above the KES 283 level during the day while Safcom was looking soft although eventually settled unchanged at KES 12.95.
