Some action in Sechaba (2900t) and RDCP (263t) the main attractions in Botswana today.
Not a bad start to the week from an activity point of view in Nairobi with foreigners completely dominating proceedings. Safcom was the most active name on the day thanks to foreign participation on both sides of the telco as 20m shares changed hands. EABL was fairly active as 558k shares traded over the day. The two major banking stocks ended the day mixed with EQBNK closing unchanged while KNCB gained +0.7%.
An extremely dull start to the week. There wasn’t anything worth writing home about.
Investors took a rather caustious approach on the first day of trading in the new flexible fx regime with most names rather quiet and going net offered. The Naira was trading at 255.00 to the USD at the time of writing. Most of the action was centered around the banking stocks with the likes of FBNH ($1.4m), UBA ($1.1m) and Zenith ($1m) driving proceedings. Banking stocks came under some pressure with the sector falling -2.61% with losses in Zenith (-4.14%), FBNH (-2.51%) and Access (-2.03%) amongst the hardest hit. Consumers (-1.65%) were also weaker with NB (-5.00%) being a major drag on the index.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Nothing much to report from Harare although some muted buying did return in Delta (52.5c) and Econet (20c).
