Things were moving in the right direction but still not the best of days in Gaborone. BIHL ($50k), Barclays ($23k) and Sefalana ($17k) were the only names worth mentioning.
The market recovered from the previous day’s loss, albeit on lower volumes as foreign participation reduced to 31%. Safcom (+0.9%) and Eqbnk (Unchanged) dominated the turnover accounting for 38% and 33% respectively.
It was a bad day to close off an eventful week in Port Loius as the main index Semdex weakened slightly as Rs28.4m exchanged hands. NMH (unch, Rs25.00), SBM (+0.5%, 7.64) and MCBG (-0.4%, Rs45.60) accounted for over 56% of today’s total market turnover. Other stocks worth a mention were Lux (unch, Rs63.75) and Sun Resorts (-1.0%, Rs49.00) on a tough day.
The market closed the week on a positive note as all indices closed higher. The Industrials (+2.31%) led the gains, spurred by Dangcem (+4.35%). Crosses in NB, Intbrew and Dangsugar dominated the turnover, with the afore-mentioned names accounting for a total of 60%. There was also a cross of 650 million shares of Wapic at N0.50, worth approximately USD900k.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another semi decent day to end the week in Harare as the country welcomed its new President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was inaugurated earlier today. The major movers on the bourse were Padenga (54.43c, $1.3m), Old Mutual (457.55c, $1.2m) and Delta (132.23c, $1.1m). Other counters worth a mention were PPC (188.02c, $951k), Seedco (147.08c, $628k) and Econet (88.68c, $220k).
