Sechaba accounted 92% of total market turnover as the counter exchanged 282k shares to close at 2950t

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.51%, USD 11.8m

Activity was once again decent in Nairobi although foreigners were largely absent (accounting for less than 25% of the market). The most active name was EABL which gained 2.6% to KES350.00. This was almost the only foreign trading that took place today. The other active names were the likes of Bamburi, Barclays, Carbacid, Safcom and Limuru Tea and almost 100% of this was local trading. According to rumours, the NSE might be suspended until the local brokerage community can get clarification on the new CGT rules.

Mauritius: Closed

Nigeria: ASI +0.36%, USD 30.7m

After a painfully quiet start we saw activity pick up throughout the day although crosses still heavily dominate the market. Banks gave back some of their recent strength as they closed down 8bps. Activity was heavily focused on GTB (+96bps, N21.00), Zenith (-2.27%, N17.20) and Access (+1.08%, N5.60). Consumers gained a solid 1.43% with activity and direction driven by NB (+1.12%, N133.85) and Nestle (+3.64%, N819.99). The general market was rather quiet.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.01%, USD 1.2m

The industrial index closed the day in the green as Econet and Delta continued with their dominance in the market. Econet traded a total of 955k shares to close the session off at 55c, while Delta traded 412k shares to close at 116c. Other movers included Pearl (2.80c), Seedco (104c) and ZPI (1.20c)
