Another dead day on the bourse
Local investors remain totally dominant in Nairobi. The rumored boycott from the local brokerage community never materialized and it was business as usual. The most active names were EABL (KES346) and Centum which saw a large cross (mix of local and foreign) at KES62.00. In the banks we saw both banks driven slightly higher, Equity Bank closing at KES54.50 and KNCB closing at KES59.50. Safcom also witnessed decent action as the telco inched higher to end the session at KES15.45.
There was a lot of action on the bourse today. MCBG gained 0.5% to close the day off at Rs203.00, after trading 141.3k shares, while NMB saw a cross of 1m shares at Rs68.00, causing the counter to retreat to unfamiliar territory. Also in the mix was P.O.L.I.C.Y, which accounted 68% of total market turnover, closing at RS6.14(-14.7%) due to massive crosses going through at Rs6.10
Outside of a couple of chunky crosses in the likes of Nestle, NB, Dangcem and UACN the market was extremely dull today. Banks ended the day up 1.86% with direction driven by UBA (+8.25%, N3.14), FBNH (+4.93%, N7.45) and GTB (+3.71%, N21.78). Consumers were heavily focused on the crosses in the names above like Nestle (unch, N820), NB (+64bps, N134.70) and UACN (+3bps, N34.00). Dangcem saw a chunky cross as well as the large cap closed down 65bps at N152.20. There was also decent action in Forte Oil (-72bps, N220.40) after yesterdays results.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A quiet end to the week as the index retreated by 0.25%. The most active name on the board was Econet , closing the day down at 115.5c on the back of 1m shares traded. Other movers included Dairibord, Pearl and TSL, which closed the week off at 9c, 2.80c and 25c respectively.
