Some chunky local trading dominated proceedings in Gaborone today. The most active names were Primetime (314t), Choppies (256t) and BIHL (1875t).
Once again we saw Safcom dominate the market on a generally quiet Friday. The telco rose by 1.12% to KES22.50 and accounted for more than 75% of the total market turnover. The rest of the market was dull.
A slow day to end the week in Port Louis as SUN and MCBG trying to get things going with 167k shares and 24k shares changing hands in the names respectively.
The screens were pretty much all green today as some aggressive local and foreign buying ended a strong week on a strong note. Both Banks (+3.24%) and Consumers (+3.14%) had good days while volumes across the board were impressive. Tier 1 Banks were particularly active with Zenith (+2.51%, N19.99), GTB (+1.58%, N34.00), UBA (+6.73%, N8.40) and FBNH (+10.12%, N6.42) leading the way. Dangote Cement rose by the maximum of 5% to N192.93 on big volumes. Consumers were highlighted by a chunky cross in Nestle (+5.00%, N918.76).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A very solid day to end the week in Harare, but this should be taken with a pinch of salt as Econet ($1.2m) completely dominated proceedings while the rest of the market was dead quiet.
