Some local action in Turnstar the main action today in Gaborone.
Another dull and quiet day in Kenya. Foreign investors were heavily skewed to the sell side. Once again the major trading went through in Safcom with the telco falling yet again – this time by 1.12% to KES22.00. There was also a cross in BATK (+63bps, KES795.00) while the rest of the market never awoke from their slumber.
Another rather uneventful day although MCBG continues to rally unabated. The banking group rose by 1.0% to Rs255.00 which is yet another all-time high and the stock also accounted for approximately half the total turnover.
Activity remains rather robust in Lagos. Interestingly, many participants expected a strong open after last night’s announcement but the market in fact opened lower. It was only towards the close that the banks finally tipped into positive territory before ending the session up 27bps. Activity remains high in the sector though with chunky volumes in the likes of Zenith (-15bps, N20.15), GTB (-32bps, N34.00) and Access Bank (+53bps, N9.50). The consumers rose by 85bps although volumes were generally light in the sector. DangCem saw some nice crossing but gave back some of its recent outperformance by falling 5.0% to N199.50.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another impressive day on the activity front in Harare thanks to some action in Lafarge ($632k) and Econet ($567k).
