Movers & Shakers: June 05, 2017

Botswana: DCI -0.05%, USD 94k

Nothing to report from Botswana.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.22%, USD 4.4m

An incredibly dull start to the week in Kenya with nothing much worth noting. Bucking the recent trend we saw KNCB top the turnover charts as the bank gained 1.88% to KES40.75. Safcom was the second most active name but the telco slipped by 1.11% to KES22.25. The only other name to see even a modicum of trading interest was Equity Bank which closed marginally higher at KES39.50.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.16%, USD 530k

A very uneventful start to the week in Port Louis with nothing exceptional to report back on.

Nigeria: ASI +3.85%, USD 24.3m

Another punchy day with the bulls continuing to dominate. The Banks rose by another solid 1.75% with all names ending the session in the green. As usual, volumes were dominated by Zenith Bank (+95bps, N20.18), GTB (+32bps, N34.11) and FBNH (+10.12%, N7.07). The consumers (+22bps) drifted slightly higher although outside of Nestle (+3.94%, N955.00) the sector was quiet. The other name which saw some chunky action was DangCem which rose by 8.85% to N210.00 with more than $5m changing hands.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +1.43%, USD 3.0m

Once again local participants heavily dominated trading on the ZSE with aggressive buying continuing to push the index higher. Today we saw decent action in Econet (36.25c) and Seedco (101c).
