Botswana: DCI +0.08%, USD 350k

Apart from a cross in Letshego (1.11m shares) which accounted for 92% of activity it was rather slow going in Gaborone as total turnover amounted to USD 350k.

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.21%, USD 134m

Egypt's net international reserves inched up USD0.1 billion to USD16.8 billion in August 2014, up 0.6% from the previous month. The index managed to hold above 9700 points, losing 0.21% to close at 9703 points on above the average volumes of USD 134m. CCAP (-1.92%) led market volume, with a major cross of 25 million shares at EGP4.62/share. Few names managed to end the day in the green territory: ESRS (+0.60%), OCDI (+1.03%), EAST (+1.50%), and SWDY (+0.33%). Institutional participation accounted for 35%, where foreigners were net buyers worth EGP10 million.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.16%, USD 3.8m

Another dull day in Nairobi with turnover amounting to $3.8m as activity was evenly split between locals and foreigners. A foreign cross in BATK boosted activity in the usually illiquid name as 91k shares changed hands. Foreign interest in Safcom drove the telco +0.4% higher as 3.95m shares traded. There was a foreign cross in BMBC as a total of 262k shares traded in the name while foreign demand drove EQBNK +0.5% higher.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.10%, USD 800k

It was a slow start to the week in Port Louis as turnover amounted to USD 800k. There was some activity in MCBG (31k shares) while it was dead quiet in SBM (1.76m shares) and NMH (1k shares).

Nigeria: ASI +0.13%, USD 12.3m

The highlight of the day was an off-market cross in DangCem of 243m shares (ca. 1.25% of the company) whereby Dangote Industries sold to the Investment Corporation of Dubai. Elsewhere, the market was very quiet with turnover amounting to $12.3m with some action in the likes of Zenith ($1.41m), NB ($1.36m), FBNH (1.33m) and Transcorp ($1.33m). Banks were strong and managed to close +1.15% higher with good performances in ETI (+1.85%) and UBA (+1.79%). Consumers (-0.30%) continued to come under pressure today with Guinness (-2.87%) and IntBrew (-1.68%) dragging the sector lower.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.17%, USD 464k

Not much on the go in Harare today as total value traded amounted to USD 464k with some activity in Innscor ($156k), Econet ($143k) and Delta ($123k) the only names worth mentioning. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.17%.
