Not a bad day in Gaborone as value traded amounted to USD 905k thanks to a cross in Turnstar (4m shares).
Very solid day to end the week with value traded amounting to an impressive $14.2m thanks to an increase in foreign participation (79.4%). A large foreign cross in EABL was the main talking point of the day as a total of 1.94m shares traded in the name with the brewer closing at 289 (+2.1%). Foreign demand drove Safcom higher (+0.4%) as a total of 22.85 shares changed hands. Equity Bank touched a 52 week high of KES 46. Media reports indicate that the bank sold a loan agreement it had with Nairobi County to KCB Bank. Nairobi County will be repaying the loan to KCB at an interest rate of 13% as opposed to the higher rate of between 14.7% and 18.5% it was repaying Equity Bank.
A slow day to end the week in Port Louis as turnover dried up to USD 650k with MCBG (24k shares) the only name worth mentioning.
There was an increase in activity today with value traded amounting to $30.8m, but this should however be taken with a pinch of salt as a mammoth local bookover of 100m shares in FBNH drove activity with total value traded in the name amounting to $13.03m. There was also some action in the likes of Oando ($3.50m), Nestle ($2.12m) and GTB ($1.92m). Banks managed to close slightly higher with the Index gaining +0.06% thanks to Access (+0.94%) and GTB (+0.42%). Consumers (+2.49%) had a very strong day thanks to Guinness (+5.70%), Unilever (+4.80%), Nestle (+4.69%), PZ (+2.86%) and IntBrew (+2.57%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The mainstream index skid further in the closing session of the week paring 0.68% to 187.08 points. The weakness in the index was a culmination of softening demand in heavy cap Econet which touched a high of 74c in the previous week’s closing session before receding to close today’s call at 66.90c. Elesewhere value traded increased 75% to $0.77m.
