Some local action in FNBB (298t) was the major highlight on a generally lethargic day.
A very uneventful day in Nairobi with volumes never picking up. Today the bulk of the action was heavily dominated by EABL (unch, KES238.00) with Safcom (unch, KES18.90) also seeing some nice two-way trading. The rest of the market was eerily quiet.
The bulk of today’s action went through in the normally illiquid NMH Floating Rate Tranche B Notes while normal trading was extremely curtailed.
The major focal point of today’s trading was a large cross in Nestle (foreign buyer, mix of foreign and local selling) which accounted for about two-thirds of the total turnover. Normal trading was yet again subdued although Banks (+2.30%) did find a strong bid with most names closing in the green. Action was led by GTB (+2.98%, N24.51), UBA (-1.37%, N4.33) and Zenith Bank (+1.12%, N14.50). Consumers closed the day slightly in the red although outside of Nestle the sector was dead.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Crosses in the likes of Seedco ($656k), Econet ($359k) and Delta ($346k) drove proceedings on another decent day in Harare.
