Another insipid day of trading in Botswana with only some mild action in Letshego (220t) going through.
A much better day in Nairobi as activity increased threefold to $10.7m. This should however be taken with a pinch of salt as a large cross in Safcom (-0.3%) accounted for the bulk of today's turnover with 45.4m shares changing hands in the telco. Elsewhere, there was some decent activity in ARM (+1.1%) thanks to a foreign cross as 5m shares traded, while the rest of the market heavyweights were quiet.
A very active day in Port Louis with both banks seeing some decent two-way flow. In particular, SBMH was the recipient of a number of crosses at Rs7.00 (unch). MCBG inched higher by 10bps to Rs225.25.
The two banking giants lead from the front in terms of activity with Zenith ($2.3m) and GTB ($1.5m) driving proceedings. Banking stocks closed the day -1.14% lower, dragged down by GTB (-2.02%) and Zenith (-0.86%) while consumers closed +1.67% higher on low volume. Inflation continued to rise, up to 18.7% in Jan (from 18.6% in Dec).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A pretty ambivalent day in Harare. The main action today went through in Delta (83c) and CBZ (10.5c).
