Some activity in Barclays (634k shares) tried to get things going in Gaborone, but the rest of the market remained quiet.
Another fairly active day in Nairobi thanks to heavy foreign participation although this was extremely skewed to Safcom as the telco accounted for more than 70% of the total market turnover. The stock witnesses some chunky crosses at the KES18.00 level which is where it closed the day (unchanged). The rest of the market was broadly uneventful.
A sub-par day on the activity front in Port Louis with some small activity in MCBG the only name worth mentioning as 47k shares changed hands.
The market remains rudderless while volumes remain low. Banks slid by 37bps today with Zenith Bank (+68bps, N14.80) on the receiving end of the bulk of the action in the sector. Consumers gained 88bps for the day mostly thanks to NB (+3.99%, N129.99) and Guinness (+4.59%, N64.88) driving the sector higher albeit on small volumes. Nestle continues to get hammered and shed another 4% today to close at N576.00 after seeing some decent volumes in the name.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another day slow day in Harare with nothing to report.
