Botswana: DCI +0.91%, USD 5.59m

It was a great day in Gaborone thanks to a cross in FNBB (10.72m shares) which accounted for 77% of turnover as total value traded amounted to USD 5.59m. There was also some action in Sechaba and BIHL.

Egypt: EGX 30 +1.04%, USD 150m

Egypt rallied 1.04% to close on strength above the 9000 level on the back of high volumes. OTMT rallied 3.17% leading the market in terms of volumes, trading 144 million shares approximately 2x the 3-month average volume. HRHO (+5.28%) continued to surge on strong institutional appetite following winning Etisalat Misr’s IPO yesterday. ORWE plunged 3.61% following announcements by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to slash export rebate rates by 50%-75%. Profit-taking was evident in COMI (-0.97%) after reaching a new 52-week high. Foreigners were net buyers accounting for approximately 8.3% of market participation.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.99%, USD 10.4m

It was a much better day in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $10.4m on the back of an increase in foreign activity (58%). Safcom (+0.80%) was the day's most active counter as 22.65m shares changed hands in the telco thanks to a large foreign cross. KNCB continued to rally after strong results with the name gaining an impressive +4.5% thanks to foreign demand. EABL (+2.3%) also continued to make steady ground ahead of results due on Friday.

Mauritius: Semdex -0.02%, USD 1.6m

Mauritian activity remains fairly robust (relatively speaking) with the Sem-7 gaining 7bps while the Semdex closed marginally in the red. The Sem-7 was led higher by gains in MCBG (+12bps, Rs215.25) and Ciel (+29bps, Rs7.00).

Nigeria: ASI +1.18%, USD 22.72m

Things slowed down in Lagos today as value traded amounted to $22.72m. The likes of Access ($3.36m), NB ($3.32m), Zenith ($1.92m), GTB ($1.61m) and WAPCO ($1.53m) were the biggest contributors towards turnover. Banks had a fairly solid day with the Index gaining +0.51% with strong moves in UBA (+2.14%), FBNH (+1.22%) and GTB (1.03%). Consumers (+1.66%) were very strong thanks to the likes of Guinness (+5.00%), NB (+2.76%) and PZ Cussons (+1.55%). WAPCO (+2.46%) also managed to close on the front foot.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.50%, USD 797k

Activity still remains quiet in Harare although Econet saw some mild action today (cross at 71c), outside of this there was just a smattering of trades in names like Delta (127.02c – demand strong for the name) and DZL (12.70c).
