Outside of yet another Choppies cross at 550t (local buyer, foreign seller) the market was extremely quiet.
Another dull day in Nairobi as the sluggish market could just not get going. The main action was a cross in BATK (local seller, foreign buyer) which accounted for more than 40% of the market activity. That tells a story in itself. In normal trading there was not much to write home about as all the large caps (Safcom, KNCB, EqBnk and EABL) continue to soften.
Some chunky action in SBMH (-1.1%, Rs0.86) was about the only thing to note in a mostly dead session. Hardly anything traded in any other names including MCBG (unch, Rs217.00).
Dangcem (+4.97%, N180.00) dragged the ASI out of its recent weakness although the rest of the market continued to plummet. Banks fell by another 1.07% today with most names continuing to struggle. Action was centered in GTB (-1.32%, N22.40) and Zenith (-1.52%, N16.20). The consumers (-78bps) spent the day on the back foot with Nestle (-24bps, N840.00) heavily dominant. There was also a large cross in Wapco (-1.50%, N101.50).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The ZSE continues to weaken while volumes remain thin. Today there was some muted action in Econet (29c), Innscor (62c) and Seedco ($1.0475c) while Delta continues to soften (89.5c).
