Botswana: DCI unch, USD 390k

A cross in Choppies (454k shares) drove activity today as total value traded amounted to USD 390k on an otherwise dull day.

Egypt: EGX 30 -0.45%, USD 91m

The Egyptian market managed to break its five-day rising streak. The EGX30 posted marginal profits, ending 0.45% down to close at 8457 points on improved volumes of USD 91m. COMI rallied 2.15% on strong foreign buying interest on twice the three-month average volume, and posted a high of EGP38.10/share for the day. Profit booking took place in high-beta names with AMER down 3.52%, PHDC 2.37%, OTMT 1.57%, and EGTS 2.81%. OCDI (-2.96%) pays EGP315 million as down payment for its recently acquired 301 acre land plot in New Cairo.

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.11%, USD 4.89m

A very quiet day in Nairobi as foreign investors remain quiet and skewed to the sell side. The most active stock was Safcom with foreign sellers pushing the stock slightly down to KES12.55. The banks were mostly quiet with Equity Bank slightly soft. EABL continues to be in demand from foreign investors as it rose to KES306. Today also saw possibly the first ever trade in Umeme (Kenya) at KES13, local buyer and foreign seller.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.48%, USD 610k

Very slow day in Port Louis as value traded amounted to USD 610k with MCBG (51k shares) the only name worth mentioning.

Nigeria: ASI -0.08%, USD 22.5m

Another generally dull day in Lagos with a couple of crosses in the likes of NB, Oando and FBNH dominating the day. The banks ended the day marginally positive although no discernible trend in the sector. The most active names were FBNH (+81bps, N16.14), Access (-10bps, N9.80) and Zenith (+40bps, N25.30). Consumers fell slightly with softness recorded in NB (-41bps, N174.50) and Unilever (-2.85%, N51.50) while Guinness rose by 1.25% to N200.00. Oando remains one of the most actively traded stocks (predominantly by local investors) and closed today unchanged at N28.00

Zimbabwe: Industrials -1.15%, USD 548k

Activity slowed down drastically in Harare with value traded amounting to USD 548k with some action in DZL ($248k) driving turnover while Delta and Econet were extremely quiet. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -1.15%.
