A much more active day in Nairobi. The day started with a bang with a slightly suspicious yet chunky trade going through in BATK. After this normal activity resumed with EABL (unch, KES 295) and Safcom (-40bps, KES 11.95) the main recipients of this increased interest. The banks also witnessed a couple of crosses and we saw EqBnk close unchanged at KES45.75 while KNCB closed at KES53.75.
Market activity rebounded after yesterday’s debacle. The bulk of the action took place in Lux Island Resorts (-1.05%, Rs47.00). In the Sem-7 we saw gains for SBM (+94bps, Rs1.07), NMH (+29bps), Alteo (+29bps) and Ciel (+1.47%) while Terra fell by 27bps to Rs 36.90 and MCBG closed unchanged at Rs210.
Local investors were once again heavily dominant trading in names like Oando (unch, N26), Transcor (-4.04%, N5.47) and Caverton which accounted for the lion’s share of the turnover. In normal trading the banks rose by 30bps with most names closing slightly in the green. Activity was highest in FBNH (+51bps, N15.70), GTB (+40bps, N30.13) and Access (+1.02%, N9.90). Consumers fell slightly with Intbrew down 5% after releasing results late last night. Consumers were rather quiet. The MPC committee announced the results of their meeting at the close with no surprises in terms of interest rates (unchanged at 12%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
