A very slow day to end the week in Gaborone with value traded amounting to USD 80k with no crosses to speak of.

Egypt: Closed for the day.

Kenya: NSE 20 -0.10%, USD 8.0m

It was a solid day to end the week in Nairobi as value traded amounted to $8.0m with foreigners accounting for 69.1% of activity. Safcom (+1.7%) was the most active name on the day as 24.48m shares traded with news that the telco is set to deploy the LTE network after the parliamentary house committee approved the KES 14.9bn security contract. EABL was also rather active with foreigners dominating both sides of the name as 455k shares changed hands in the brewer. Ahead of 1H14 results announcements due next week, Equity Bank remained unchanged at KES 44.75 while KCB shed 0.9%.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.16%, USD 480k

Absolutely dire day in Port Louis with value traded amounting to a paltry USD 480k. It was rather slow going in MCBG and SBM as 21k shares and 1.33m shares changed hands in the names respectively.

Nigeria: ASI -0.57%, USD 53.5m

On the face of it, it was a rather pleasing day to end the week as value traded amounted to $53.5m, but this should however be taken with a pinch of salt as there was a large cross in GTB ($28.78m) which was a reversal of yesterday's cross. Other notable contributors towards activity came in the form of DangCem ($4.71m), Oando ($2.72m) and NB ($2.09m). There was also an off-market cross of 77m DangCem. Banks ended the day on the front foot with the Index gaining +0.90% with strong moves in GTB (+2.99%) and Zenith (+1.12%). Consumers (-0.40%) ended the day lower as Flour Mills (-5.00%) and Dangote Flour (-4.99%) dragged the sector lower. The likes of FCMB, Stanbic and Cadbury released H1 2014 results.

Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.

Zimbabwe: Industrials -0.64%, USD 1.22m

A much better day in Harare with value traded amounting to USD 1.22m as Econet ($634k) and Delta ($407k) dominated proceedings. The market closed the day lower with the Industrial Index falling -0.64%.
