It was a quiet day in Nairobi today. Safcom also accounted for 65% of the total turnover which shows just how dead the bulk of the market was. Safcom rose by 26bps to KES19.00 on almost $3m turnover while the rest of the market didn’t awake from its slumber.
Another sprightly day in Mauritius with MCBG yet again leading the turnover charts. The banking group slid slightly to Rs228.75 on good volumes while most other names were rather dull.
We are in the midst of results season. Today we saw the likes of Guinness, Access, UBA and ETI release results. GTB released 2017 Q1 numbers late last night which were perceived as good as the name opened the day at limit up. It did soften during the day yet still closed up 2.23% at N26.63. All Tier 1 names closed in the green and pushed the sector higher by 1.68%. The most active names were GTB, Access (+2.81%, N6.58) and Zenith (+1.23%, N14.80). The consumers slipped by 10bps on quiet volumes.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Local investors heavily dominated the ZSE today. Names such as Barclays Bank, BAT, Hippo Valley, Innscor and Simbisa dominated the trading charts while most large caps were rather quiet.
