A much better day in Gaborone thanks to some action in Letshego as 4.8m shares changed hands in the name while the rest of the market was quiet.
A much better day in terms of activity today as foreigners dominated purchases (72%) and drove the market +0.13% higher. Safcom continued on its recent run and closed the day +0.6% higher on foreign demand as 21.1m shares changed hands. EQBNK was also very active thanks to a few foreign crosses as the name closed +0.6% on 5.9m shares. Not much on the go in KNCB as only 604k shares traded over the day while EABL was very quiet.
Another sub-par day in Port Louis with MCBG once again dominating proceedings as 39k shares changed hands while the rest of the market remains very dull.
The open of the session was delayed to technical issues yet again and as such, we saw apprehension from market participants with very light volume. There was some activity in GTB ($2.3m), Zenith ($1.6m) and UBA ($1.0m) with the latter releasing Q1 2016 results. Banking stocks managed to close the day higher with the sector gaining +2.04% thanks to UBA (+3.13%), GTB (+2.28%) and Zenith (+1.95%). Consumers (-0.91%) closed lower thanks to weakness in NB (-1.91%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
