The day was very slow until 2 crosses in illiquid names TCL and ARML just before the close bumped up trading volumes. General market activity was extremely quiet with foreign participation really low until the TCL and ARML crosses. The large cap names were much more subdued today with Safcom, EABL, KNCB and EqBnk all very quiet..
A rather active day in Port Louis to end the week as turnover amounted to USD 2.5m thanks to some action in MCBG as 203k shares traded in the name. There was also some activity in NMH (76k shares) and SBMH (4.57m shares).
Some crosses again helped volumes in a generally quiet day. Banks fell by 44bps as they finally gave back some of the gains from earlier in the week. The main laggards were Tier 2 names with some decent crossing taking place in Stanbic (-3.13%, N31.00). There were also big volumes in GTB (+66bps, N27.30) and Zenith (-9bps, N22.59). Consumers ended the day marginally in the red with some chunky trading in Guinness (-1.09%, N182.00) and NB (-3bps, N170.00).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Nothing to report in Harare as value traded amounted to a paltry USD 260k
