Some small action in Letshego (240t) and Barclays (500t) were the main highlights on a mostly lackluster day.
Outside of 1 chunky cross in Safcom (+2.4%, KES 21.25) the Kenyan market was extremely dull. The telco accounted for more than 70% of the total traded volume and reached a 2016 highest average daily price ahead of tomorrow’s expected 1H17 numbers. Equity Bank (+80bps, KES30.75) was the only other stock to see any action after releasing 3Q16 results early in the day.
A massive day in Port Louis in terms of activity thanks to a large cross in Alteo as 66.7m shares changed hands in the name, which represents 20.96% of the company. This was done by way of CIEL MP selling its stake in Alteo to its subsidiary Ciel Agro. Elsewhere, the market was extremely quiet with nothing to report.
Outside of 3 crosses the market was probably the most dead it has been in a while (which is quite some going considering how quiet the bourse has been). Nestle (+1bp, N795.01), NB (-1.48%, N142.86) and Unilever (-1bp, N50.00) accounted for more than 80% of the total market turnover. The rest of the market was dead.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A very solid day in Harare thanks to a cross in Getbucks ($1m) while there was also some action in Econet ($393k) and Delta ($326k).
