A few smalls trades in Sechaba and Primetime the only names worth mentioning as 80k shares and 530k shares changed hands in the names respectively.
Things slowed down in Nairobi today, but it was still rather active as foreigners continued to dominate proceedings. The two major banking stocks ended the day mixed with KNCB closing unchanged while EQBNK fell -1.9%. It has been a rather volatile week in the banking sector after last week's announcement re the capping of lending rates at 400bps above the base rate. We expect the volatility to continue in the short term. It was slow going in Safcom (-0.3%) and EABL (+0.4%) as 5.9m shares and 115k shares traded in the names respectively.
A very solid day to end the week in Port Louis thanks to crosses in Sanlam (182k shares), MCBG (93k shares) and GreenBay (4.9m shares) while the rest of the market was rather quiet.
It was all about GTB ($6.8m) today as a rather impressive 79.3m shares changed hands in the name thanks to a few large crosses. The counter was rather strong and closed the day +2.04%, it must however be noted that we did see a slight sell-off from the day's high towards the close. Elsewhere, there was some small activity in UBA ($1m) while the rest of the market was dead quiet. Banking stocks managed to close the day higher with the sector gaining +0.97% while consumers (+0.18%) closed higher on small volume. DangCem was a drag on the market as the heavyweight fell -7.85%.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Tiny trades in Delta ($90k) and Innscor ($50k) on another quiet day in Harare.
