Some action in the normally highly illiquid Engen (900t) was the main action today in Gaborone.
A very impressive day in Nairobi thanks to a large cross in Safcom (+0.8%) as 57.6m shares changed hands in the name with the telco accounting for 55% of total market turnover. There was also some decent activity in EQBNK (unch) and EABL (-0.4%) as 13.2m shares and 1.3m shares changed hands in the names respectively. Not much on the go in KNCB (+1.9%) as 1.2m shares traded.
MCBG once again stole the show with well over 80% of the total daily turnover taking place in the bank. The rest of the market was dull.
GTB ($5.8m) once again saved the day from an activity point of view thanks to a cross just before the close while there was also some decent activity in Zenith ($1m). Banking stocks closed the day slightly higher with the sector gaining +0.24% thanks to UBA (1.55%). Consumers (+0.10%) closed in positive territory on very light volume.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A good illustration of how badly Zimbabwe has fallen in that market participants almost got excited for $400k changing hands. Some activity in Delta (63c) and Econet (19.6c).
