Movers & Shakers: September 13, 2017


Botswana: DCI unch, USD 3.75m

A lively day in Gaborone thanks to FNBB ($1.2m), Letshego ($806k), Sechaba ($675k) and BIHL ($526k) contributing 86% to market turnover.

Kenya: NSE 20 -1.15%, USD 6.28m

Foreign investors were net sellers on a rather uneventful day in Nairobi. Once again volumes were heavily dominated by Safcom with the telco shedding -2.56% to close at KES25.25. The only other names to see any modicum of trading were Equity Bank down -0.64% to KES38.75 and Bamburi -0.56% to KES179.00.

Mauritius: Semdex +0.05%, USD 3.56m

Another solid day in Port Louis today with MCBG (unch,Rs273.75) accounting for 73% of total turnover on the back of foreign crosses. Alteo (-0.6%,Rs32.70) witnessed two significant crosses of 200k and 100k shares.

Nigeria: ASI +0.19%, USD 4.8m

Positive sentiments trailed the Nigerian equities market today as the ASI enjoyed 19bps increase. The gains posted by FCMB (+1.85%, N1.10), FBNH (+1.05%, N5.80), GTB (+0.96%, N37.88) and Access (+0.62%, N9.72) sustained the banking sector index. The gains recorded in Unilever (+4.76%, N44.00), Nestle (+3.46%, N1,190), Dangsugar (+1.25%, N13.75) and Cadbury (+0.46%, N11) sustained the consumer sector index. Notable trades of the day were Zenith ($781k), NB ($766k), Nestle ($581k), Access ($374k) and Total ($221k).

Zimbabwe: Industrials +10.23%, USD 9.03m

A massive day in Harare seeing Padenga (99.77c, $5.1m) leading the way accounting for 57% of total market turnover, while there was some descent activity in Delta (222.34c, $2.37m) and Simbisa (71.96c, $1.10m) accounting for 26% and 12% of the market respectively. Zimbabwe equities are proving to be a better asset class instead of money, property and other alternative investments.
