Another woeful day in Gaborone.
Another very impressive day in Nairobi as the two major banking stocks lead the way from an activity point of view. The two did however experienced mixed fortunes from a performance point of view as EQBNK (-4.7%) continued to fall with 30.2m shares changing hands in the name as foreigners dominated purchases. KNCB on the other hands managed to close +4.1% higher as 12.4m shares traded with locals (55%) dominating purchases. Not a bad day in Safcom from an activity point of view as the telco closed inchanged on 12.4m shares. There was also finally some life in EABL as two blocks traded in the name with the brewer closing -3.1% lower on 834k shares.
A very solid day from an activity point of view thanks once again to the usual culprit MCBG as 204k shares changed hands in the name. There was also some activity in LUX as 498k shares traded while SBMH was dead quiet.
A better day in Lagos, but still nothing to write home about with some small activity in ETI ($1.9m), Mobil ($1.2m) and GTB ($1.2m) while the rest of the market remains woefully quiet. Banks closed the day lower with the sector falling -0.52% with some pressure on Zenith (-2.29%) dragging the sector lower. Consumers (+0.70%) managed to close in positive territory on another very quiet day in the sector.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Some small activity in Delta ($167k) the only name worth mentioning on another quiet day in Harare.
