Movers & Shakers: March 22, 2017


Botswana: DCI -0.42%, USD 1.1m

Another impressive day in Gaborone on the activity front thanks to some action int BTCL (5.3m shares), BIHL (128k shares) and Letshego (1m shares).

Kenya: NSE 20 +0.97%, USD 5.6m

Another pedestrian day in Nairobi with the usual suspect Safcom ($2m) the most active counter on the day with the telco closing unchanged at KES 18.10. Elsewhere, there was some small activity in EQBNK ($810k) and KNCB ($640k) with nothing else worth reporting on.

Mauritius: Semdex unch, USD 1.3m

MCBG accounted for 60% of today’s turnover as the banking group remains unchanged at Rs225.00. SBMH also ended the day unchanged at Rs7.00 on reasonable volumes. There was nothing else happening on the bourse.

Nigeria: ASI -0.17%, USD 8.0m

A better day in Lagos, but still nothing to write home about with the likes of GTB ($2.4m), Nestle ($1.8m) and UBA ($1m) driving proceedings. Banking stocks closed the day -0.20% lower with some weakness in GTB (-1.08%) dragging the sector lower. Consumers (-0.61%) also closed lower thanks to Nestle (-1.33%). Lafarge released FY 2016 numbers wich saw PAT fall -37.8% to N16.89bn.

Zimbabwe: Industrials +0.05%, USD 951k

A chunky cross in Econet at 15c was the major talking point today. The rest of the market was uneventful.
