A chunky day in Gaborone thanks to crosses in the likes of Choppies (405t) and Barclays (345t).
An average day from a turnover point of view in Nairboi as value traded amounted to $6.8m with activity once again pretty much evenly split between locals and foreigners. Safcom continued to rally post H1 2015 results with the telco gaining +0.8% on 25.77m shares thanks to foreign interest. EABL closed +0.3% higher as foreigners continue to buy the brewer with 175k shares changing hands on the day. The two major banking stocks closed mixed with EQBNK closing flat while KNCB fell -0.9% ahead of results due out next week.
The Semdex and the Sem-10 both fell by 12bps today. MCBG shed a further 24bps to Rs207.00 while SBMH closed unchanged at Rs1.03. ENL Land lost 1% to Rs49.00.
The bloodbath continued in Lagos as the ASI fell by a rather large -4.07 while turnover increased to $50.1m. The most active names came in the form of Zenith ($15.09m), GTB ($4.79m), Sterling Bank ($4.33m), WAPCO ($3.23m) and Mansard ($3.01m). Banks took another beating with the Index falling -3.51% thanks to UBA (-9.66%), Access (-5.94%), ETI (-4.97%) and FBNH (-4.96%). Consumers took an absolute hammering with the Index falling -4.14% as Cadbury (-9.72%), Dangote Sugar (-9.65%0 and NB (-5.00%) were amongst the worst performers while the picture was pretty bleak across the entire sector. Cements also continued to feel the pressure with WAPCO and DangCem falling -9.74% and -5.00% respectively.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A decent cross in DZL (10c) was about the only activity in yet another dull trading session in Harare.
