Some chunky action today but in normally illiquid names like RDCP (202t) and Letlole (215t) with the large cap names all dull.
Foreign participation remains high in Kenya and skewed to the buy side. As usual when foreign investors are involved the most traded names were the large caps. EABL saw a couple of chunky crosses as the brewer closed up 1.4% at KES298. Safcom also saw some nice activity and also gained 1.5% to close at KES13.55. The banks were more subdued with KNCB gaining 90bps to KES56.00.
Things slowed down in Port Louis but it was still rather active as turnover amounted to $2.17m with the likes of MCBG (48k shares), SBMH (6.81m shares) and LUX (142k shares) driving proceedings.
Another active day in Nigeria with the index gaining ground although this was almost solely attributable to Dangcem as the bourses largest name gained 10.23% to N187.11 on big volumes. In the other sectors we saw sellers dominating in both the banks (-1.61%) and consumers (-1.17%). Tier 1 banking names all ended the day in the red with decent volumes once again in Zenith (-1.90%, N20.60), GTB (-1.76%, N24.00) and FBNH (-5.99%, N9.88). Consumers were dominated by some big trades in NB (-3.02%, N160.00). Oando had another active day with the name shedding -3.60% to N20.90.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A rather average day in Harare as turnover amounted to $1.02m with some action in DZL ($539k) and Seedco ($469k) while the market continued to fall with the Industrial Index closing -0.20% lower.
