An absolutely woeful day in Gaborone.
Another sub-par day from an activity point of view in Nairobi as foreigners accounted for 88% of total sales. A decent cross in EABL (local buyer/ foreign seller) was the highlight of the day as 747k shares traded in the brewer. A foreign cross in the usually illiquid CFC Stanbic also helped boost activity as 1.4m shares traded. The two major banking stocks continued to come under pressure with KNCB falling -1.2% while EQBNK fell -3.6%.
Some chunky crosses went through today in Rockcastle (-2.3%, Rs2.12) after news of its addition to the MSCI index. The rest of the market was generally uneventful.
Crosses in Zenith ($7.8m) and Seplat ($6.6m) were the highlight of the day while there was also some action in GTB ($1.5m) and NB ($1m). Banks managed to close in positive territory with the sector gaining +0.77% thanks to ETI (+3.41%) and UBA (+2.44%). Guinness (-1.67%) and NB (-2.44%) were drags on consumers as the sector closed -0.08% lower.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The index took a big knock today with the lion’s share of the action taking place in Delta (80.99c).
