Some action in FNBB (1m shares) and BIHL (193k shares) drove proceedings today while the rest of the market was rather quiet.
Crosses again dominated the landscape in Kenya. The major crosses took place in some late action in EABL (local buying, foreign selling) as the brewer closed unchanged at KES275.00. There was also decent activity in Safcom (-3%, KES16.25) and BATK (-1.8%, KES785). Bamburi also witnessed 1 cross (local buyer, foreign seller) as the cement company closed unchanged at KES175.00 while the rest of the market was rather quiet.
Another sub-par day in Port Louis as turnover amounted to $680k with a small bit of action in MCBG (29k shares) and Rogers (305k shares).
Some early crosses and some late crosses helped volumes improve on another generally dull day while sentiment remains generally poor. Banks fell by 27bps with the bulk of the action taking place in GTB (-24bps, N21.00) and Zenith (-19bps, N15.98). The consumers were broadly unchanged with Nestle (+12bps, N808.00) and NB (+63bps, N115.72) seeing the majority of the trades. In economic news the MPC cut the benchmark interest rate from 13% to 11% while the Cash Reserve Requirement was reduced from 25% to 20% which in theory should be positive for the banks.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another rather dull day in Harare while the market continues to come under some serious selling pressure.
