The market was very quiet today.
An absolutely woeful day in Nairobi as both local and foreign investors lacked interest. There was some action in Equity Bank (local buying, foreign selling) as the banking group slipped by 3.7% to KES46.00. Other names were painfully quiet.
Indices closed in the red for the 3 rd consecutive day. MCBG closed up 0.1% to reach a five week high at Rs199.50 as 46k Shares were exchanged in the name. SBM fell among the laggards today after shedding 1.1% to close at Rs0.94 after 2.9m shares were traded in the name.
Earlier in the session the market was extremely quiet outside of some crosses in UACN, UBA, PZ and GTB. As the session progressed we saw an increase in activity but to no avail as the banking and consumer indices slumped by 0.34% and 0.40% respectively. The most active names were ETI (+0.05%, N19.59), GTB (+1.25%, N28.35), Zenith Bank (-2.33%, N22.66) and UACN (+0.95%, N39.37).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
An absolute shocker of a day in Harare as turnover amounted to a paltry $383k. Delta and Pandega contributed $193k and $103k on the back of 185k and 1m shares traded respectively.
