The market was extremely quiet
The index retreated into negative territory after days of promise whilst foreign interests were mainly geared towards KCB (+0.8%, KES64.50) and Equity Bank (+1.6%, N48.25) trading a total of 3.6m and 2.6m shares respectively. Other movers included Safcom (-0.3%, KES17.20) and EABL (-0.3%, KES329). Umeme took over from BATK as the top performer, gaining 8.9% to close at KES19. BATK (-7.3%, KES728) and Britam (-9.2%, KES22.25) were the most notable losers of the day.
SBM emerged as the most active name in the session after trading an impressive 16.3m shares to close down 1.1% at Rs0.91 (15m shares were crossed at Rs0.91). MCBG shed 0.3% to close at Rs198.50 on the back of 72k shares traded. Joining the top movers was Rogers, gaining 0.7% at Rs29.40 as 338k shares were exchanged in the name.
It was a painfully quiet day in Lagos with investors remaining cautious. The only cross worth mentioning was the one in Zenith Bank (4m shares at N23.20) as the counter closed the session unchanged on the back of 31m shares traded . The banking index shed 0.61% although Tier 1 banking names accounted for 63% of total turnover. The consumer index also closed soft (-1.19%) on the back of losses in market heavies Cadbury (-4.41%, N39.20), Guinness (-3.58%, N161.99) and NB (-2.38%, N157.02).

CBZ (unch, 10c), Delta (unch, 106c) and Natfoods (unch, 316c) were the most actively traded names in todays session contributing $100k, $875k and $617k respectively. Barclays and Dawn were the top movers after gaining 5.26% and 5.96% respectively whilst the laggards included Old Mutual (-0.01%, 251c) and TSL (-4.35%, 22c).
