Volumes remain subdued with Letshego and Choppies accounting for the bulk of activity.
Activity remains fairly average on the bourse. The most actively traded names were Equity Bank (+2.6%, KES49.25), KCB (-0.8%, KES64), Safcom (+0.9%, KES17.20) and Britam (+1.2%, KES20.50) accounted for 68.4% of market activity. Foreign participation was 63% which was mainly steered towards market leader Uchumi (+3.4%, KES10.50). Notable losers included BAT (-8.7%, KES705) and Umeme (-8.2%, KES17.45).
All indices closed the day in the red. MCBG accounted for 80.2% of total turnover to close the day off at Rs198.00 (+0.1%) on the back of 480.6k shares traded. Despite registering decent volumes, SBM continues to decline. The counter is currently 2.2% down from previous close, closing at Rs0.88 after trading a total of 9.4m shares.
There was a slight improvement in activity as the market struggles to stay afloat. Selling pressure in tier 1 banking names FBNH (-1.33%, N10.40), GTB (-2.44%, N28), UBA (-0.18%, N5.60), Zenith Bank (-3.37%, N22.05) and Access Bank (-0.59, N6.70) resulted in a decline of 1.91% in the banking index. The consumer index rebounded by 0.54% despite low volumes across the sector. In the Cements, Dangcem (+0.57%, N175) was the only counter to make a significant contribution towards turnover ($1.1m) after trading a total of 211m shares.

Delta (unch, 106c), Econet (unch, 49c) and BAT (unch, 1160c) were the most actively traded names in the session, contributing $576k, $753 and $102 respectively.
