Nothing happened in Gaborone.
Another quiet day in Nairobi although foreign participation was much improved. The bulk of the action was focused on Safcom (-1.1%, KES13.90), Bamburi (unch, KES140) and EABL (+1.3%, KES307). There was also activity in KNCB (-90bps, KES56.00) and Centum (+1.6%, KES64.50).
Another relatively uneventful day in Port Louis. The banks were under pressure with SBMH closing down 1% at Rs1.01 while MCBG fell by 50bps to Rs196.75. These 2 banks accounted for almost all the trading activity today.
The Lagos bourse opened on the back foot and remained the way for the entire session as red covered the trading screens. Banks lost 3.47% with every banking name in the red. Tier 1 names saw a couple of crosses in the likes of ETI (-1.10%, N18.00), GTB (-3.42%, N24.32) and Zenith (-5%, N17.10). Consumers were also on the receiving end of a massive battering as the sector lost 5.98% led lower by NB (-9.71%, N147.17) and Nestle (-5%, N945.82). There were also big losses in names like DangCem (-5%, N180.50), UACN, (-5%, N32.30), Unilever (-4%, N35.03), Seplat (-5%, N333.93) and Flourmills (-4.88%, N37.23) as red littered the screens during a tough day in Nigeria.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Today it was Econets turn to dominate proceedings as trading in the telco accounted for 90% of the days turnover. Econet closed at 60c while there was also some minor trading in Delta (102c).
