Nothing to report.
A solid day from an activity point of view to end the week in Nairobi thanks once again to some action in Safcom (unch) as 21.4m shares changed hands in the telco. EABL (-1.4%) was also rather active thanks to a foreign cross as 1.6m shares traded in the brewer. EQBNK (-1.9%) continues to struggle, but on the positive side, there was some decent activity in the name as 5m shares traded. It was a rather quiet day for KNCB (unch). The NSE 20 Index has now fallen below the 3,000 (closed at 2,971), which is a new 7-year low.
The index gained a decent clip albeit on really tiny volumes. There was nothing exciting to write home about.
A better day in Lagos, but activity remains well below par, and this should be taken with a pinch of salt as a cross in NB ($8.7m) accounted for the bulk of activity. Banking stocks managed to close higher with the sector gaining +0.45% on tiny volume. Consumers (-0.01%) closed the day slightly lower. On the currency front, according to a news report out from Reuters, the Central Bank has told traders that they won't devalue the Naira as they are looking to "boost Dollar inflows and eliminate the spread between the official and black market exchange-rates". According to the same report, the Central Bank has agreed to sell FX at 381 to bureaux de change operators.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A quiet end to a quiet week in Zimbabwe as the index tried its hardest to inch higher. The major action today was done in Seedco (101c).
