A much better day in Gaborone thanks to some action in Sefalana as 1.4m shares changed hands, while the rest of the market was dead quiet.
Another very solid day in Nairobi from an activity point of view as foreigners dominated purchases and pushed the NSE 20 index +0.63% higher. EABL had a solid day with the brewer gaining +1.5% on foreign demand as 933k shares traded. EQBNK (unch) and KNCB (+0.7%) were also quite active as 4.4m shares and 3.2m shares changed hands in the names respectively. Safcom had a verys strong day and managed to gain +4.4% on 9.2m shares.
Some chunky action in MCBG (+40bps, Rs209.00) was the major attraction on a very active day in the Indian Ocean island. The only other stock to see any action was SBMH which closed unchanged at Rs0.67. NMH (-3.6%) came under some pressure after their cautionary stating that they are not aware of any international suitor.
A cross in Wema Bank ($5.4m) boosted activity on an otherwise dull day as 1.1bn shares traded in the name. There was also some small activity in GTB ($2.1m) and Zenith ($1.6m). Banks closed the day lower for a second day in a row with the sector falling -2.93% with some serious pressure on Zenith (-5.22%) and GTB (-5.13%). Consumers (-0.83%) were also weaker thanks to Unilever (-4.99) and NB (-4.2 7%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A pathetic day in Harare as sentiment just continues to worsen.
