Activity continued to impress in Gaborone thanks once again to Letshego as 10.9m shares traded while there was also some activity in Sefalana (500k shares).
Another quiet day in Kenya. The only real activity were noting were some crosses in Safcom (+30bps, KES16.00) and Equity Bank (+60bps, KES39.25). There was much more muted trading in KNCB (-60bps, KES39.50) and EABL (-1.4%, KES275.00).
A massive foreign cross in Rock Castle helped boost activity as 2.5m shares changed hands in the name. Elsewhere, there was some activity in MCBG as 106k shares traded while the rest of the market was very quiet.
Yet another pathetic day in Lagos. Sentiment remains very poor with foreign investors still heavily skewed to the sell side. The day didn’t get off to the best start when FBNH announced a profit warning right at the open. As a result, most of the banks (-2.96%) spent the day net offered albeit on thin volumes. The only banking stock that saw any decent volume was Zenith Bank which fell by 5% to N10.87. Consumers (-75bps) were also dull outside of NB (+5bps, N100.10). The other big news out of Nigeria today was a “good faith” payment by MTN of N50bn ($250m) to the government which will be applied towards a settlement.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another dull day in Harare with Hippo ($120k) the only name worth mentioning.
