A very solid day to start the week from an activity point of view in Gaborone as turnover amounted to $1.5m thanks to some action in Sefalana (340k shares), Choppies (1m shares), BIHL (224k shares) and Barclays (611k shares).
A dull start to the week in Nairobi. As usual the lion’s share of the action took place in the large cap names with most of them being weak on the back of aggressive foreign selling. EABL lost a further 1.5% to KES 256.00 while both banks had a rough day, Equity Bank falling by 1.1% to KES 44.50 and KNCB closing down 1.7% at KES 43.25. Safcom bucked this trend by gaining 1% to KES 14.95 as some very aggressive foreign buyers pushed the name higher.
An extremely active start to the week in Port Louis as total value traded amounted to $5.1m, thanks mostly to MCBG as a mammoth 718k shares traded in the counter. There was also some small activity in Alteo (201k shares) and ENL Land (107k shares).
The Nigerian market is still asleep as very little interest being displayed across the board. In fact, if it wasn’t for a couple of crosses in NB at N140 the market was probably at an all-time low in terms of volumes. NB eventually closed at N138.00 (-1.43%) which dragged the consumers down by 47bps. Banks closed up 89bps although volumes were quiet in the sector.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
A shocking start to the week with turnover amounting to a paltry $25k.
