Today was the turn of the normally illiquid NAP (258T) to cross in a generally dull session.
Another decent day with action heavily focused on the banks yet again while foreigners remain dominant on both sides of the equation. The 2 big banks were the 2 most active stocks and both gained 2.5% with KNCB closing at KES KES41.25 and Equity Bank at KES41.00 respectively. EABL saw a couple of decent crosses yet ended the day unchanged at KES253. There was some crossing in CFCB (local selling, foreign buying) as the stock closed up 2.3% at KES90.00.
The Mauritian bourse fell for a 9th consecutive session. As usual, the lion's share of the action belonged to the 2 major banking groups. MCBG fell by a further 50bps to Rs206.00 while SBMH closed unchanged at Rs0.80.
Volumes improved markedly from the previous few sessions although activity still remains heavily dominated by just a couple of crosses. Early in the session there were some chunky crosses in Dangcem (+63bps, N161.01) and Forte Oil (+2.27%, N270.00). In normal trading we saw the banks fall by another 71bps with activity led by GTB (-1.37%, N23.04) and Zenith Bank (-59bps, N16.85). Consumers closed marginally in the red although outside of NB (+1bp, N135.01) the sector was extremely quiet.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another quiet day in Harare. The only stock that saw any action was in Econet (27c).
