Things slowed down completely in Gaborone with turnover amounting to a dull $22k.
A much better day from an activity point of view in Nairobi as turnover amounted to $14.5m thanks mostly to a few large foreign crosses in EQBNK (-8.0%) as 24.4m shares changed hands in the name. KNCB (-4.7%) was also rather active with foreigners dominating both sides as 5.9m shares traded. Not much on the go in Safcom (-2.0%) and EABL (-0.8%) as 5.9m and 162k shares traded in the names respectively. The Central Bank of Kenya sought to calm investors by reiterating that the banking sector is safe and robust. The regulator said it is committed to providing adequate liquidity support to banks to ensure stability and robustness.
The market continues to drip lower while we saw a very quiet session. MCBG fell by 80bps to Rs207.00 while SBMH closed down 1.20% at Rs0.80.
Another extremely dissapointing day in Lagos as turnover amounted to $8.2m with ETI ($1.1m) the only name breaking the $1m mark. Banks were under some pressure with the Index falling -1.64% as UBA (-5.00%), Access (-4.94%) and GTB (-2.67%) dragged the sector lower. Consumers (-0.57%) were also under pressure thanks to UACN (-6.23%) and PZ Cussons (-4.00%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Activity remains quiet in Harare.
