Some tiny local activity in BIHL (1600t) was about the only stock that traded today.
Once again it was the usual suspects (large caps) that drove market activity with foreign participants turning net buyers for a change. Safcom continues its mantle as the most active stock with some really strong foreign demand pushing the stock up 1.8% to KES16.75 and the name ended the day well bid. The banks were also pretty solid with KNCB closing unchanged at KES41.25 while Equity Bank climbed by 1.9% to KES40.50.
Another lethargic day in Port Louis with only some mild action in MCBG (-40bps, Rs206.00) going through.
The ASI is trying to show some signs of life but action remains few and far between and is still isolated in just a couple of names. Today we saw a number of chunky crosses in GTB (-49bps, N16.30) with the bank accounting for about half of the total volume traded today. There was also some decent action in Zenith (-2.20%, N12.90) while the rest of the sector was dead. The consumers gained an impressive 3.03% thanks to NB which closed up 5% at N109.20 while Nestle also climbed by 3.24% to N702.00. In economic news the Central Bank announced the MPC decision after the market closed. The MPR was raised from 11% to 12% while the CRR was increased to 22.5% (up from 20%).
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Another quiet day on the ZSE. The only real trading was some muted action in Delta (55.98c).
