A sub-par day in Nairobi with foreigners back in the driving seat as far as activity is concerned (72%). There was some decent activity in EQBNK thanks to a few foreign crosses as 4.8m shares changed hands. Not the worst day in Safcom from an activity point of view as 11.4m shares changed hands in the telco. KNCB closed the day lower, falling -0.6% on 919k shares while the rest of the market was very quiet.
Activity continues to fail to break the $1m mark with some action in MCBG (95k shares) driving proceedings yet again.
Some profit taking appeared in the Lagos market today after a few days of rallying. Banks fell by 97bps with action once again heavily biased towards GTB (-1.84%, N15.99) and Zenith (-49bps, N12.12). Consumers fell by 98bps with both NB (-1.13%, N101.64) and Nestle (-2.23%, N708.85) seeing some decent action. The MPC kept the Benchmark Interest Rate and the CRR at 11% and 20% respectively.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
Back to normal in Harare with some activity in Econet ($592k) the only name worth mentioning.
