A quiet day in Gaborone today with some small activity in BIHL, Choppies and Barclays.
Not the best way to start the week in Kenya, as political uncertainty crept into the stock market seeing the Shilling weaken to 0.77% year to date while foreigners were 59% total market purchases. Not one of today’s top counters broke the $1m mark with KCB (unch, KES37.00) accounting for more than 27% of total turnover, Equity (unch, KES36.00) and EABL (unch, KES241.00) the only names worth mentioning on a dire day in Nairobi.
The indices opened the week lower with, the Semdex down -31bps and the Sem-10 down -48bpds. MCBG (-1.3%, Rs274.50) after releasing an announcement after court judgment about its link to the NPF fraud fourteen years ago accounted for 82% of turnover with 208.0k shares traded of which 192k were foreign sales.
A slight improvement from last week’s close on the bourse today seeing the indices have mixed reactions with the financial sector closing +0.24% firmer and the consumers closing -0.31% softer. GTB (+0.24%, $2.7m) leading the way with a few massive crosses accounting for 35% of the market. Zenith (+3.14%, $913k), Presco (+0.75%, $857k) and UBA (-0.11%, $657k) the other counters contributing to the assistance of today’s total market turnover.
Please note that the index figure above is correct at the time of writing.
The industrial index opened the week up +1.45% to 512.67 points supported by gains in Barclays (4%), Delta (5%), FMHL (11%) and Hippo (3%). Delta ($2.87m) and Econet ($1.28m) were the most actively traded counters.
